Leonard Alm

Leonard “Mike” M. Alm, age 85 of Perham, died Saturday, November 26, 2022 at Elk Ridge Assisted Living.

Mike was born on January 19, 1937 in Albert Lea, MN to Meredith and Mary (Thoreson) Alm. He grew up in the Albert Lea area and received his teaching degree in Mankato.

In 1957, he was joined in marriage to Lucille Preuss in Waterville, MN. Together they raised their sons, Steve, Brad and Randy. After Mike completed college, he took a teaching position in Milo, IA and the family remained there for three years.

While in Iowa, Mike was given the opportunity to relocate and teach in Perham. In 1962, he began his decades-long career with Perham High School. When he wasn’t teaching an industrial class at the high school, Mike and Lucille built, owned, and operated the A&W restaurant. For 25 years they served the Perham community and took joy in employing teenagers, including their own boys.

Together Mike and Lucille enjoyed traveling and would winter in California and Mississippi. Whether it was in Perham or while enjoying the warm winters down south, it was not uncommon to find Mike on a golf course or tennis court. He also enjoyed fishing and woodworking.

Mike is survived by his wife, Lucille Alm; sons, Steve (April) Alm of Dassel, MN, Brad (Cindy) Alm, of Denver, CO and Randy Alm of Denver, CO; five grandchildren, Nate (Sara) Alm; Sarah Mudge, Jennifer Alm and fiancée, Tom, Alex Alm, Zach Alm and fiancée Jenna; and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings, Marilyn Veldman, Maridee (Phil) LeBeau, and Mark (Nina) Alm; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Meredith and Mary Alm.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at Schoeneberger Funeral & Cremation Service in Perham. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
