Lois Sherman

August 4, 1922 — October 14, 2011

Lois Lorraine Sherman of the Thomas House in Perham, MN passed away Friday, October 14, 2011 at the age of 89. Lois passed away at her home surrounded by her familiar things and wonderful caregivers.

Lois was born in Campbell, MN with her twin sister Lucille on August 4, 1922. She was the daughter of David and Martha (Guelzow) Donley. After moving several times, the Donley family settled in the Basswood/Amor area when Lois was six years old. She married her childhood sweetheart, Bernard "Buster" Sherman on June 29, 1941. They shared 48 years together until his death in September of 1989.

Lois started out caring for families in the Amor/Basswood area at a very young age. She continued that work as an adult in Minneapolis and throughout the rest of her life after returning to the area. Lois and Buster raised their family in the Minneapolis area until 1973 when they retired on the Dead River in Ottertail County. Lois continued to be a caregiver while working at the Ottertail Nursing Home, a job she loved until she retired.

Her main focus in life was doing things for her family and friends. She loved making cookies for her grandchildren and always remembered them and her great-grandchildren with birthday and Christmas cards with a $5.00 bill. She never missed a sporting event or a school concert for her grandchildren.

Lois was well known for her special, one-of-a-kind spaghetti sauce and potato salad. When she asked, "What can I bring?" these favorites were always requested. At Christmas time she made dozens and dozens of Christmas cookies for every family member.

Lois is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Buster; sisters, Fern, Ruth, Dory, and twin Lucille; brothers, Clarence, Mel and Jerry; and great-granddaughter Ella Jo Krumwiede.

Survivors include son, Lee (Diane) of Ottertail, MN; daughter, Barbara (Terry) Krumwiede of Basswood, MN; adopted son, Richard (Linda) Van Cleave of Lino Lakes, MN; eight grandchildren, Patrick (Judy) Sherman of River Falls, WI, Michael (Mondai) Sherman of Ramsey, MN, Daniel (Stacy) Sherman of Waseca, MN, Jason (Sara) Krumwiede of Richville, MN, Ryan (Taryn) Krumwiede of Richfield, MN, Joseph (Carrie) Krumwiede of Glyndon, MN, Stacey (Shawn) Sempel of Wyoming, MN, and Susan Van Cleave of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Duane (Marion) Donley of Basswood, MN; sisters, Ione of Fergus Falls, MN, and Arlys (Jake) Jacobson of Underwood, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

We wish to thank all of our family and friends for your love and support. A special thank you to Lisa, Celie and all the other wonderful caregivers at the Thomas House in Perham, MN.
