Louie E. Sazama

February 17, 1934 — April 19, 2023

Frazee

Louie E. Sazama, age 89, died peacefully on Wednesday April 19, 2023 at the Frazee Nursing Home.  Louie was born on February 17, 1934 in Dent MN, the son of Albert and Regina (Dombeck) Sazama.  He attended Rose Hill Country School through 8th grade.  Louie farmed with his dad Albert and neighbor Joe Perszyk until 1956. Then he moved to Great Falls, MT where he worked at the Dick O’Day Prairie Nest Ranch and a few other jobs.

Louie was united in marriage to Shirley Moltzan on February 23, 1957 in Great Falls MT.  Together they had 5 children:  Ken (Colleen) Sazama of Dent, Ray (Lou Ann) Sazama of Perham, Marie (Mitch) Malcolm of Ottertail, Tom (Vicky) Sazama of Dent and Jan (Mike) Nebosis of New York Mills.

The love of farming and being closer to family had Louie & Shirley return to Dent in 1958, where they resided at the Joe Perszyk farm and he worked until 1966.  The Sazama homestead was purchased in 1903 by Michael Sazama and was passed down through the generations with Louie and Shirley purchasing the family homestead from his parents, Albert & Regina in 1966.  They farmed the land and had dairy cows. The homestead is still in the Sazama name 120 years later, a fact that made Louie very proud. In 1996, when Shirley passed away, Louie sold the dairy cattle but continued grain farming and raised beef cattle. Louie enjoyed playing cards at any occasion and that continued on throughout his life.

Louie was married to Joan Anderson for 10 years.  He served 32 years on the Edna Township board.  He loved farming and collecting IH tractors.   After retiring, he enjoyed fishing, visiting friends in Dent and Perham, and driving his Kubota around.

Preceding Louie in death were his parents; wife, Shirley; brothers, Duane Sazama, Jim Sazama, Bill Sazama, Mike (Sandy) Sazama; and his sisters, Marcie (Stan) Silbernagel, Arleen Silbernagel, and Ardell Jorgenson; father-in-law, Henry Moltzan Sr; mother-in-law, Bertha Moltzan; sister-in-law, Carol Sazama; brother-in-law, Gerald Moltzan; and great grandchild, McCoy Sazama.

Surviving Louie are his children; 15 grandchildren, Jared (Laura), Justin, Jed (Danielle), Amanda (Ryan), Marty (Kayleigh), Jena (Josh), Melissa (Javin), Ashley, Jacob (Kim), TJ (Whitney), Troy (Savanna), Tony, Breanna (Cole), Nicole, and Amy (Andrew);  17 great grandchildren, Logan, Levi, Bryce, Macoy, Huxley, Jaden, Kelcie, Austin, Teagen, Kenzley, Isabella, Ethan, Avianna, Cason, Mya, Laikynn, and Lanson;  siblings, Art Sazama and Roger (Deb) Sazama; siblings-in-law, Charlie Silbernagel, Cyndi Sazama, Vicki Sazama, Marlin Jorgenson, Henry (Polly) Moltzan, and Debi Eischens; and former daughter-in-law, Deb Meehl.
