Margaret Schafer

Margaret A. Schafer, age 93, of Perham , MN , died Thursday, February 18, 2010 , at the Thomas House.


Margaret was born in Biwabik , MN (Bangor Location) on June 1, 1916 , the third child born to Mike and Rose (Dergantz) Kochevar. She lived most of her life in Chisholm , MN , receiving her schooling in the Chisholm Public Schools.



In 1943, she married William Henry “Bill” Schafer and to this union four children were born; a son and three daughters. Until the death of her husband on July 6, 1965 , Margaret was a homemaker. She then sought employment at the shirt factory in Chisholm and worked there until her retirement. In February 2006 Margaret moved to the Thomas House in Perham , MN , to be closer to her son and his family.



Margaret is survived by four children, William (Jill) Schafer, Ottertail, MN; Mary (Norman) Nederhoff, Wellsburg, IA; Margaret (Steve) Burgess, Limon, CO; and Elizabeth (Nathan) Schaffner, Yuma, CO; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Sophie Sterle and Betty Hendrickson, both of Chisholm, MN; and a large extended family.



Preceding Margaret in death are her parents; her husband, William; three brothers, Mike, John and Leonard Kochevar; three sisters, Rose, Lillian and Helen Mae; an infant sister, Mary; and a son-in-law, Ralph A. Carlson.
