Maria Susana Villarreal

Maria S. Villarreal, age 86, of Grafton, ND, passed away at Perham Living nursing home in Perham, MN, on Sunday, July 19, 2026, with family by her side.

Maria was born January 24, 1940, to the late Diego and Susana Mendoza in Lampazos, N.L., Mexico.

On July 30, 1960, Maria married Daniel Villarreal. The couple lived in Laredo, TX, for several years before becoming migrants and moving to Forest River, ND, where Maria worked in agriculture for Bud Tibert, Pete Yon, and Tom Torkelson. She later settled in Grafton, ND, where she worked for Marvin Windows for 24 years.

In her free time, Maria enjoyed playing bingo.

Maria is survived by her children, Gloria Merkins of Perham, MN; Juanita (Ernesto) Parra of Laredo, TX; and Daniel (Angie) Villarreal of Fargo, ND; her grandchildren, Cathy Villarreal, Ernesto Parra Jr., Latasha Villarreal, Anthony Villarreal, Susan (Tyler) Jones, Eric Parra, Kayla (Damian) Cure, Kimberly (Dylan) Larson, Elizabeth Merkins, Karina Villarreal, and Daniel Villarreal; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Diego and Susana Mendoza; her husband, Daniel Villarreal; her sons, Arturo Villarreal and Daniel Villarreal III; her siblings, Nicolas, Rafael, Servando, Guillermo, Catalina, Agustina, and Juany Mendoza; and son-in-law, John Merkins.

A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at Calvary Memorial Cemetery in Perham, MN.
