Marie A. Wokasch, age 75 of Ottertail, MN passed away Thursday, March 20, 2014 in Sanford Health Palliative Care Unit surrounded by her loving family. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 24 from 5:00-8:00 PM with Parish Prayers at 7:00 PM at Schoeneberger Funeral Home in Perham, MN. Visitation will resume on Tuesday, March 25 beginning at 9:30 AM at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, rural Perham followed by the funeral mass at 10:30 AM. Burial will be held in the church cemetery.
Marie was born on December 21, 1938, the second daughter of John and Laura (Bonau) Kinnen at their family farm in Evergreen Township, MN.
Growing up, Marie attended country school near Detroit Lakes, and then later attended Frazee High School where she graduated in 1956. Marie was united in marriage to James Wokasch on April 16, 1958 and they subsequently moved their home to Round Lake near Ottertail, MN.
Throughout her life, Marie worked several jobs. As she was growing up, she worked on the family farm and also at Kinnen Boat Works helping to build boats for her father, who owned the shop. She also worked for Ebeling's Cafe, the Perham Bakery and Perham Jobbing. But she will be most remembered for Teddy Bear Daycare, the daycare business she ran for many years. Marie cared for many children growing up in the area for many years. Lastly, she worked several years as a nursing assistant at Perham Memorial Hospital and Home.
Marie shared her many talents with people over the years. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, making a variety of craft items and was an accomplished painter.
Preceding Marie in death are her parents; her husband, James; and her sister, June Johnson.
Surviving Marie is her daughter, Autumn (Steven) Dinnel; her grandsons, Austin and Isaiah Dinnel; her sisters, Evelyn (Marlow) Moldenhauer of Rosemount, MN and Carol (Elwin) Maki of Ulen, MN; her brothers, John Kinnen of Fergus Falls, MN, Jim (Loretta) Kinnen of Big Toad Lake, MN, Ron Kinnen of Detroit Lakes, MN and Russell Kinnen of Frazee, MN.
