Mark Anthony Moratis, 60, passed from this life into God’s heavenly home on February 1, 2022. Mark’s life was cut short due to an injury in an outdoor accident. He was born November 2, 1961, to Walter and Margaret (Tietjen) Moratis in Moorhead, MN. Mark attended school in Moorhead, graduating from college with a bachelor’s degree in Biology.
Mark was a self-taught taxidermist successfully owning and operating Moratis Taxidermy. Mark’s love for the great outdoors and his education gave him the opportunity for a career with the state of Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. He also worked with the Prairie Lakes Municipal Solid Waste Authority in Perham.
Mark’s gentle, peaceful, and kind spirit was felt by many who had the chance to meet him. He was a magnet for young children and teens, they just seemed to know how to find him no matter where. Mark was a “top notch” loving and caring husband for over twenty-five years.
Mark was a bold man of faith in God. He, along with his wife were saved and born-again believers in Christ Jesus on November 1, 2008. Mark taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. He took special delight in telling anyone about the love of Jesus and the good news.
Family was important to Mark, and he enjoyed spending time with his parents, grandkids, and adult children. He loved to teach them anything about the great outdoors. Mark spent many fishing trips untangling fishing line for his family without any hesitation or complaint. His number one fan was his grandson, Mason. Mark enjoyed researching his Greek heritage and was able to find located in Corfu, Greece, and France.
Mark and Judy owned and operated a hobby farm in Richville raising elk, pheasants, chickens, and horses, no matter the size. Mark was like a “Dr. Dolittle”, he just knew how to care for any injured wildlife animal or bird that presented itself.
Mark is survived by his loving wife, Judy; step-children, Candie (Curtis) Harris, of Bloomington, MN; son, Billy Ross, of Waverly, Iowa; foster Daughter, Terefech Mitiku Nuramo, of Ethiopia; parents, Walter and Margaret Moratis; grandchildren, Lacey Ross, Mason Ross, Jasymne Harris, Noah Harris, Samantha Ross, Madison Ross, Jastin Ross, Telsha Ross, Brayden Ross, and Jack Ross; sisters-in-law, Linda Swenson, Sue (Rueben) Patson, and Sally (Cal) Schultz; brother-in-law, Jason Albin; many other relatives and friends; along with service dogs, Joy and Gabriel. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Judy – until we meet again “Bam Bam”.
