Melvin Herbert Brasel

Melvin Herbert Brasel, age 84, of Perham, MN, passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.

Melvin was born on June 27, 1942, to Walter and Elva (Huwe) Brasel in Perham, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Corliss Township, near Perham. He attended country school in District 277 and Perham High School, then served six years in the Army National Guard. On May 21, 1966, he married Joyce Bunkowske in Vergas, MN, and together they raised two sons, Dan and Joel.

Melvin worked in electrical and carpentry trades throughout his life. He enjoyed camping, woodworking, and woodcarving, and cherished his winters spent in Texas.

He is survived by his two sons, Dan Brasel of Perham, MN, and Joel (Mariela) Brasel of Elk City, OK; four granddaughters, Crystal, Ximena, Gena, and Alexa; two brothers, Arlo (Sandy) Brasel of St. Cloud, MN, and Eldon (Carol) Brasel of Perham, MN; five sisters, Doris Jaakola of Perham, MN, Viola Lako of Fargo, ND, Noreen Selander of New York Mills, MN, Connie (Chuck) Bortle of Perham, MN, and Donna (Walter) Siefert of Perham, MN; sisters-in-law, Linda Brasel and Shirley Brasel, both of Perham, MN; special friend, Cody Sazama; and many other friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce, of 58 years; his parents, Walter and Elva (Huwe) Brasel; brothers Donald, LeRoy, Gerald, and Larry Brasel; sisters-in-law, Carole Brasel and Connie Brasel; and brothers-in-law, Wayne Lako, Alden Selander and Glenn Jaakola.

Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. followed by the Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29th, at St. John's Lutheran Church of Corliss. Interment will be at the St. John's Lutheran Church South Cemetery (Bethlehem).
