Melvin R. Yager, 71, Ottertail, MN, passed away peacefully at his home, Wednesday, November 9, 2011, surrounded by his family and friends who loved and adored him, with comfort care provided by Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Mel was born on April 28, 1940, the son of Roy W. and Florence N. (Russell) Yager, in Kelso, WA. He grew up and attended school in Longview, WA. Following graduation, Mel entered the U.S. Navy, serving from 1958 to his honorable discharge in 1961. Mel was united in marriage with Bonnie, at Fort Snelling, Minneapolis, MN, on October 14, 1979. The couple lived in Baker City, OR, where Mel worked as a Registered Nurse at St. Elizabeth Hospital. In his spare time, Mel enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with Bonnie. He especially loved time spent with his family and friends.
Surviving Mel is his wife, Bonnie, Ottertail, MN; children, Melvin, Jr. (Sandra), Mark (Shannon), and Matthew (T2), all of Woodland, WA, Melainee (Tyler), Statesville, NC, Pamela (Dean), Braham, MN, Jack (Lisa), Forest Lake, MN, Michael, Brainerd, MN, Charlie and Bob, both of Pendleton, OR; ten + grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren.
Preceding Mel in death are his parents and three sisters, Naomi, Emily and Louise.
