Michael Edward Kern, 62, of Dent, MN, died, at his home, the evening of Wednesday, June 15, 2011.
Mike was born September 8, 1948, in Grand Forks, ND, the son of Edward and Esther (Marweg) Kern. He graduated from Perham High School, Perham, MN, in 1966. Mike was united in marriage to Carol Budke, on August 23, 1969, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Dora Township. He worked at a variety of jobs including sodding for McGowan's; Lund Boat Company for 10 years and subbed on a mail route for 12 years. In 1995, Mike started fulltime as a mailman, a position he held until his death. Mike also farmed on his folks' place. He loved horses and raising his Red Angus beef cattle as well as hunting. Mike taught Firearm Safety for several years. Mike's love of God was strong right to the end. He rarely missed a Sunday service and gave his time as an active church trustee and sexton for St. John's Lutheran Church.
Surviving Mike is his wife, Carol, of Dent, MN; two sons, Joel, of Rothsay, MN, and James, of Dent, MN; three sisters, Sharon (Art) Hennig, of Dallestown, PA, Lucinda Wagener, of Wahpeton, ND , and Katherine Hansen, (Don, Jr.), of Hillsboro, ND; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Mike in death are his parents and one brother, Joseph.
