Oren Hazelton

June 24, 1925 — June 25, 2013

Oren Robert Hazelton was born in Brainerd on June 24, 1925 to Fred and Geneva (Berg) Hazelton. He grew up in Merrifield and attended school in Merrifield and Brainerd until he joined the Navy in December of 1943. While in the Navy, he was stationed on a civilian ship carrying fuel to Navy bases around the world. He was full of stories about his adventures on those ships during World War II. He married Ione Marsh on February 2, 1952 in Hopkins, Minnesota.

Oren worked at the Northern Ordinance Plant in Fridley, Minnesota. He and Ione settled in Coon Rapids and raised two daughters, Lynn and Debby. He was active in the Coon Rapids Methodist Church. He had many hobbies - attending auctions, doing clock repair, reading, crossword puzzles, and woodworking to name a few. He was a life time learner and instilled the value of a good education in his family. He often took classes at various technical schools to hone his woodworking or clock repair skills. He loved the Lord and he loved people.

Oren and Ione retired in 1985 and moved to Corpus Christi, where they spent many years at the Colonia Del Rey Park. They were active members of St. Peter by the Sea United Methodist Church. They made many friends while living in Corpus Christi.

Ione passed away in August of 2011, since this time, Oren had been living with his daughters. He was currently residing with Lynn in Eagan and had come to Perham to stay for the summer.

Preceding him in death is his wife, Ione; parents, Fred and Geneva Hazelton; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dallas and Hazel Marsh; brothers, Floyd and Wayne Hazelton; sisters-in-law, Delores Hazelton, Delia Hazelton, and MaryAnn Hazelton.

Oren is survived by his daughters, Lynn (Tom) Wieczorek and Deb (Dick) Williams; grandchildren, Michael (Julie), Mary, Stephanie, Gina (David) Burnett; great-grandchildren, Ally Burnett and Carter Wieczorek; brothers, Neal and Glen Hazelton; sister, Gail (Jack) Herron; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
