Randy was born in Perham, MN on September 23, 1952, to Earl J. and Letha A. (Wells) Grover. After graduating from Perham High School in 1970, Randy proudly served in the United States Army where he was stationed as a Cook at Camp Casey in South Korea. Following his discharge, he attended Graphic Art School and then opened a sign painting company. Randy, as a member of the Perham Fire Department from 1980 to 1992, provided direction to the volunteer ambulance service from 1976 to 1990. He then became a Paramedic, had a passion for helping people and had a vision that included an enhanced ambulance service for the Perham area, unprecedented at that time. In 1990 he developed and directed the new Advanced Life Support ambulance service, primarily staffed with paramedics. He was the EMS director until 1996 when he moved to Rossford, Ohio. Randy then worked as a paramedic in a trauma center. He made his way back to MN and worked for McGrath Sheet Metal, before returning to his favorite place on earth, Perham. He worked for KLN Industries and ACE Hardware before retiring.
However, he didn't stop working. Randy could always be counted on to help with projects no matter how big or small, he was an expert handyman. Randy was also a gifted wood worker and loved designing and building projects for others. He was also a fantastic cook, especially on the grill. His world-famous chicken was his specialty. He loved to travel and together with Lisa he hiked many state and national parks. Randy also enjoyed fishing and was a lifelong Twins fan!! In his spare time, however, he enjoyed playing cribbage, he always had a cribbage board and cards wherever he went.
Randy is survived by his wife, Lisa; his daughter, Tiffany Grover (Jackson Smith) of Otsego; his sons, Jesse (Robyn Evenson) of Litchfield and Joshua (Missy Johnson) of Perham; his grandsons, Corbin Grover of Perham and Braylon Grover-Andvik of Otsego; his step-son Terry Goken of Lonsdale, MN; his brothers, Ronald of Wister, OK and James (LuAnn) of Grand Rapids, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bob (Anne), Eugene (Renee), Thomas, and Howard; sisters, Zelda “Jackie” (Frank) Lachowitzer and Vernetta “Babe” (Clarence “Red”) Schattschneider; infant sister, Arta Joan; and sister-in-law, Betty.
Randy loved his family and friends and was adored by his nieces and nephews; his passing has left a hole in our hearts.
Breathe easy Randy, Rest in Peace!
