Rebecca Rennicke

May 11, 1956 — December 21, 2013

Rebecca Lynn Rennicke, age 57, of Perham, MN, passed away December 21st, 2013 at home with her family around her. Rebecca Lynn Rennicke was born May 11th, 1956 in Anoka, MN, the daughter of Arthur and Gladys Sloth. She was united in marriage to John Rennicke on June 26th, 1976, in Anoka, MN, and together they had five children.

Rebecca graduated from St. Cloud State University in 1979 with a bachelor's degree in science education. Rebecca had been teaching science since 1979, and in that time received many honors, awards and grants. Rebecca had taught students in grades 7-12 for the Hutchison Public School District, Oslo Public School District, and Perham Public School District. Rebecca also had been an adjunct professor for the College of St. Scholastica and Bemidji State University. Over the course of her career, Rebecca had taught Earth Science, Physical Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Anatomy and a specialized Environmental Research course. While Rebecca retired from classroom teaching in May of 2013, she continued to teach for the Minnesota Online High School up to her death, and was also involved in creating an educational research website through Public Television and 3M. Rebecca had also begun to create a foundation for individuals with disabilities, in her son's name, entitled Bobby's Place.

Rebecca was always in love with life in the outdoors. Sitting by campfires, gardening, skiing, sledding, fishing, snowshoeing, hiking, dog sledding, howling for wolves, and tracking animals in the woods were all activities that she enjoyed; and as much as she could, she incorporated these activities in her teaching. Rebecca's greatest joy was going to the cabin on the lake, up in the woods, and being with her family. Besides enjoying her life in the outdoors, she enjoyed the company of her friends. As often as she could, she would be busy planning some kind of activity or trip with her girlfriends. Whether that was to go to New York City, to a local music concert, or to buy fruits and vegetables for canning, she always had fun thinking about the next thing to do.

Rebecca is preceded in death by her mother Gladys Sloth of Aitkin, MN. Rebecca is survived by her husband John Rennicke of Perham, MN; her four daughters Erica Larson (married to Michael Larson) of Shoreview, MN, Rachel Rennicke of Baxter, MN, Katherine Rennicke of Pequot Lakes, MN, and Margaret Rennicke of Perham, MN; her one son Robert Rennicke of Perham, MN; two grandchildren Grace and Elizabeth Larson of Shoreview, MN; her father Arthur Sloth of Aitkin, MN; her one sister Christine Sloth of Wright, MN; her four brothers Allen Sloth of Andover, MN, Steve Sloth of Minneapolis, MN, Gary Sloth of Brainerd, MN, and Joe Sloth of Mossyrock, WA; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and best of friends.

Rebecca's visitation service will be held on Friday, December 27th, 2013 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Perham, MN. This visitation will be a time to come remember Rebecca, share stories, and celebrate her life. Rebecca's funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 28th, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Perham, MN. Those wishing to give a memorial donation in her name can make a donation to the Mayo Clinic Transplant Center, in Rochester, MN. Rebecca was on the live-donor transplant list to give a kidney of hers to another in need, in order for her son, Robert John Rennicke, to also receive a kidney. She would be very happy to know that she is still able to help her son receive a transplant in some way.
