Theresa Margaret Singer, 73, of Perham, Minnesota, formerly of Vergas, passed on peacefully the evening of April 18, 2012, surrounded by close family.
Theresa was born in 1939 in Chicago, Illinois, to Margaret (McGuiness) Lowery and Michael P. Lowery. She graduated from Providence High School in 1957. In 1958, Theresa met her husband, Richard, on New Year's Eve at the USO in Chicago. They were engaged on Mother's Day and married the following Halloween. Richard and Theresa raised nine children, six boys and three girls. In 1978, Theresa and Richard moved from Chicago to Vergas and ran the Governor's Point Resort until 1994. In 1988, they bought a home in Perham and retired there in 1994.
Theresa spent a lifetime caring for others, leading by example and inspiring those who knew her. She collected and cared for lost dogs, injured birds, and wayward souls caring for their needs in her gentle, loving way. Theresa respected and accepted everyone into her heart. Mom built a large extended family by visiting nursing home residents, getting to know them and welcoming them into her world.
Theresa had a devotion to her faith, Mary and loved the Lord. She participated in church activities, volunteering and singing joyously in the choir. Her smile lit up a room. Wheelchair strolls around Perham were often a nightly ritual. Despite a life changing stroke in 1996, Theresa led a full and vibrant life.
Theresa is survived by her husband of fifty two years, nine children and their spouses, Joseph (Connie), Brian (Nora), Michel Nelson (Matthew), Chris (Vicki), Garrett (Carrie), Felicia Antonsen (Scott), Lynn Santomo (Steve), Eric (Carrie), Rich (Heidi), twenty three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was adored by her family and will be deeply missed.
Preceding Theresa in death are her parents and her brother, Michael.
