Violet Ester Loerzel, age 94 of New York Mills, MN died Tuesday, October 21, 2014 in Perham Health of natural causes. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 24 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM with a rosary at 6:30 PM and parish prayers at 7:00 PM at Schoeneberger Funeral Home in Perham. Visitation will resume on Saturday, October 25 beginning at 10:00 AM followed by the funeral mass at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Father Matthew Kuhn will officiate. Burial will be held on Monday, October 27 at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
Violet was born on August 19, 1920 in Perham, MN to William and Freda (Tober) Ruther. She was the second oldest of six children.
On August 19, 1944 Violet was united in marriage to Benedict "Barney" August Loerzel and together they had 14 children and one adopted son.
Violet and Benedict moved to Oregon in 1964 and settled in Forest Grove. Violet worked at Birds Eye Foods and later at Tektronix where she retired in 1985. In 1995 they moved back to Minnesota and settled in Perham. Violet loved fishing more than anything and those lakes gave her plenty of opportunity and pleasure.
Surviving Violet are her children, Gretchen (Steve), Barbara (Arlan), Ben (Linda), Joe (Jaye), Bill (Gayle), Don (Donna), Larry (Tereasa), Patty (Pat), Sharon (John), Nita (Gaylon), Nancy (Mike), Tom (Louise), Pamela (Chris), Cindy (Duane) and Jimmy; her sister, Adeline; her brother, Norbert; along with grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren too numerous to name.
Preceding Violet in death are parents; her husband, Benedict "Barney"; her oldest daughter, Darlene; her granddaughter, Jennifer; her great-grandson, Kyle; her sisters, Dorothy and Lorraine; and her brother, Melvin.
