Wanda Nyhus

January 21, 1958 — August 20, 2025

Wanda Gail (Wical) Nyhus died Wednesday, August 20, 2025 after suffering five years with front-temporal dementia (a form of Alzheimer’s). She spent her last three years at Northwinds Memory Care (Perham Living) in Perham, MN.

Wanda was born in Valley City, ND on January 21, 1958, the daughter of Lyle “Mert” and Devere (Baasch) Wical. The youngest of four daughters, she grew up on a farm north of Tower City, ND. After graduating from high school in Buffalo, ND, she attended NDSCS in Wahpeton, ND, obtaining her LPN degree.

She worked in Bismarck, ND for a few years before moving to Jamestown, ND, working as a clinic nurse. While in Jamestown, she had two children, Kayla in 1981 and Landon in 1985.

After a divorce in 1996, Wanda moved to West Fargo, ND and began working at Southpointe as a clinic nurse. She married Corey Nyhus in 1998. They moved to their lake home in 2006 where Corey worked as a physician at Perham Health and Wanda worked part time in the Perham Health Clinic.

Wanda worked with tens of thousands of patients and was loved by them all. Her smile and sense of humor were priceless. Her personality was what patients and friends will remember. Some of the rural clinics where she worked and got to know families included Jamestown, Gackle, Edgeley, Wimbledon, South Fargo, West Fargo, and Perham.

She and Corey enjoyed camping, traveling, pontooning, snowmobiling, and visiting family.

Wanda will be missed by her husband Corey; her sisters Sandy (Kelly) Lang, Gwen VanHal, and Karen (Richard) Smith; her daughter Kayla; her son Landon; her two grandchildren Delanie and Jaxon; and Corey’s two daughters and five grandchildren.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents Devere and Mert and Corey’s parents Don and Doris.

Memorials are preferred to Northwinds Memory Care, Calvary Lutheran Church in Perham, or the Boys and Girls Club of Perham.

A private family service is planned.
