William "Bill" Andersen

William "Bill" Alan Andersen, 83 of Perham, MN, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2026 in his home with his family surrounding him. Bill was born on May 14, 1943, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Wally and Lorraine (Kieser) Andersen. A brother (Mike) soon appeared, and the beginning of a lifelong friendship began. Bill graduated from North High School in Minneapolis in 1961, and afterwards attended Minnesota School of Business. Having successfully graduated, he did his duty and enlisted in the Army and was off to Vietnam.

While serving active duty in the 1st Cavalry Division, a Bronze Star followed after Bill risked his life to save two fellow soldiers. Later, with his clerical skills, he landed in an office position, possibly saving his own life. After his tour was over, he came back home to Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, and wasted no time getting an entry-level position at Red Owl. He was recognized immediately, and after some time, he was moved to produce manager; and after that, he landed a job as the store manager of the Sunray Red Owl.

Judy was the baker manager at that time, and they instantly hit it off. Shortly thereafter, they were married. Judy already had a son, Steve, that Bill took as his own son. Bill successfully managed several stores before becoming a district manager with the company. He was well loved and respected.

All work and no play was not for Bill. As a sportsman, avid golfer, and bowler, no stone was left unturned when it came to camaraderie with friends and especially with family.

1982 brought Bill to Fargo as a division manager, and then to Vice President of Red Owl. Bill retired after 25 years with the company. He accepted a position with Supervalu and moved to Minneapolis in 1988. He was instrumental in the establishment of the SuperValu University and the success of the program. He once again was recognized for his brilliance and moved back to Fargo as the northern marketing representative. After a few years, he was in the top spot as the Director of Retail Operations. During this venture, Bill was able to take advantage of the company perks and, with Judy, travel extensively throughout the entire world. After 20 years at Supervalu, Bill retired in 2008 and enjoyed seemingly endless good times at his home in Perham with friends and especially family. Bill maintained many past relationships as well as making new friends.

As a couple, they were no stranger to Las Vegas, making many trips over the years. The casino in Mahnomen was no stranger to them either. Judy's unfortunate passing in 2021 left Dad with supportive friends, especially the Deja Vu crew; John, Butch, Nancy, Mike, and Bill were regulars almost every weekend.

Bill was preceded in death by his beautiful wife of 50 years, his wonderful parents, great-grandson Garrett, and many loving family members. Surviving Bill is his best friend and brother, Mike; his son, Steve; grandchildren, Zechariah and wife Nicole, Melissa and husband Dustin; great-grandchildren, Kynslee, Kade, and Carlisle; nieces, nephews, and seemingly endless friends.

A special thanks to the hospice crew for their sincere love and dedication, and making Dad's passing exactly what he had hoped for.

Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. followed by the Funeral Service at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026 at Schoeneberger Funeral and Cremation Service in Perham. Interment will be at the Perham City Cemetery.
