Yvonne Marie Hanson, age 90 of Dent, MN entered heaven on December 28, 2025.
Yvonne Marie was welcomed into the world on July 1, 1935, to Carl Emil and Alberta Mae (Morton) Umlauf. Disregarding the doctor’s advice after their eleventh child, Yvonne was their twelfth child of eighteen. She grew up on the west side of Star Lake within walking distance of Camp Joy and Spruce Lodge. As a young girl, she visited the campers and summer vacationers down the road.
Spruce Lodge Dance Hall may have been the meeting place for her and her sweetheart, Eugene Hanson. They were married on April 24, 1954 and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2014, a few months before Gene passed.
As a young couple they settled in the old schoolhouse west of Dent where they raised six children. Yvonne was a devoted wife and mother and worked outside the home to help provide for her family. She was employed at Pelican Rapids turkey plant for over 20 years. Loving to be with people, she also enjoyed cooking and waitressing at Rocky’s Resort and bartending and waitressing at Galaxy Resort, both on Star Lake.
As the wife of a commercial fisherman, she also cleaned many fish and was very proficient at skinning bullheads. With the bullheads Gene netted out of Star Lake, they started Friday night fish fries at Rocky’s Resort. After Gene’s death, Yvonne hosted many fish fries at home in honor of him.
Yvonne was a lifelong believer in Christ and was a member of St. John’s Lutheran church of Dora for 74 years. She loved time with family and friends and enjoyed visiting. In recent years, it made her day when someone would stop over for coffee. She will be remembered as a loving wife and mother, and the grandma with the best earrings.
Yvonne is survived by two daughters, Lynn (Mark) Roforth and Sheila Hanson; two sons, Jeff Hanson and Eric (Laiz) Hanson; 13 grandchildren, Troy Moberg, Scott (Renee) Moberg, Stephanie (David) Blomberg, Tanya Ard, Christina Sazama, Matthew Kunz, Alison Petru, Gerrit Wierbos, Julie Wierbos, Natalie (Cody) Barry, Hannah (James) Boogaard, Eric Hanson, and Sofia Hanson; 19 great-grandchildren, Andrew and Isaac Moberg, Izaiah (Talia) and Grace Moberg, Ashley and Haylee Ard, Madison Genoch, Caleb, David and Dodge Blomberg, Elizabeth, Lucas, William and Jonah Sazama, Finlee Petru, Hank, Hans and Rocky Barry, and James Boogaard; six great-great-grandchildren, Sawyer Moberg, Kato and Kayden Moberg, Eli and Ayden Harper, and Arie Norstedt; one brother, Allan (Linda) Umlauf; one brother-in-law, Gerhard (Brenda) Hanson; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Yvonne is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene; son, Gregory; daughter, Deborah Dahl; great-grandson, Gregory Ard and 16 brothers and sisters.
