Duane L. Engebretson

Duane L. Engebretson, age 76 of Perham, MN died Sunday, October 18, 2020 in Essentia Health, Fargo, ND. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Duane Leslie Engebretson was born May 20, 1944 near Litchville, ND the son of Selmer and Augusta (Johnson) Engebretson. Duane spent his younger years in Litchville. After attending North Dakota State University, Duane worked at St. Paul Life Insurance Company. In 1979, he started working for Pioneer Mutual Life in Fargo where he became the Executive Vice President. He retired from Pioneer in 2002. In 1982, Duane was united in marriage to Gloria Wagner. Over the years, Duane and Gloria lived hear Horace, ND and Fargo. In 1997, they built a home on Big Cormorant Lake where Duane enjoyed driving the pontoon during happy hour and enjoying the sunsets. Duane was an avid bowler in Fargo for many years, but golf was his most loved sport. He even won the Roger Maris Golf Tournament in 1993. Duane also had a love for music as he will be remembered for his great singing voice.

Surviving Duane is he wife of over 38 years, Gloria, of Perham; his stepchildren Pam (Troy) Stoetzer with children Brendan Stoetzer (Celia Bauer) and Kaylee Stoetzer (David Pfaff) and Mike Wagner with son Michael (Megan) Wagner; great granddaughter Paisley Jean Pfaff; his siblings Janet (Brian) Beechie of Walla Walla, WA, Dennis (Jeanie) Engebretson of Detroit Lakes, MN, and Dr. Stanley Engebretson of Washington, D.C.; his sister in law Lois Griffin; along with a host of nieces and nephews.

Preceding Duane in death were his parents; and his favorite pet, his cat Phoebe.
