Julie V. (VanWatermulen) Malikowski

June 10, 1941 ~ October 28, 2021 (age 80)

Obituary

Juliana “Julie” Veronica Malikowski, 80 of Perham, MN passed away Thursday, October 28, 2021 at Perham Health surrounded by family. A lifelong Perham native, Julie was well-loved in her community.

Visitation will be from 1:00-4:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 3:00 on Tuesday, November 2, at Schoeneberger Funeral & Cremation Service.

One of thirteen children, Julie was born June 10, 1941 to Charles and Anne (Hofland) VanWatermulen in Perham. She grew up on the family farm near Perham and attended St. Joseph’s Catholic school until 8th grade and graduated from Perham High School. On November 29, 1960 Julie was united in marriage to Eugene Malikowski at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church near Perham. Together they raised seven children and lived on the farm north of Perham.

Quality time with family and friends was a top priority for Julie. Conquering Aggravation boards and Bingo tables, hosting the annual “dumpling night” for grandkids, scavenging the local area for morel mushrooms, and serving as lead designer for Perham’s most sought-after bean bags, her presence will be missed by all.

Her kitchen skills provided a favorite treat for each of her grandkids. From savory dishes like dumplings, spaghetti, and cabbage rolls to sweet treats like zucchini bread, holiday cookies, and famous jelly, Julie would send a care package with every departure.

As a friend, she was kind. As a mother, she was proud. As a grandma, she was perfect.

Preceding Julie in death were her parents Charles and Anne; siblings Dennis VanWatermulen, Tony VanWatermulen, and Gerald VanWatermulen; her ex-husband Eugene, and her grandson Carson Breitenfeldt.

Surviving Julie are her seven children: Paul (Annette) Malikowski, Donna (Warren) Hendrickson, Susan Hanson, Steve (Staci) Malikowski, Sandra (Kenneth) Weis, Gloria (DJ) Polman, and Lynn (Steve) Breitenfeldt; her 20 grandchildren: Ashley, Zachary, Greg, and Sarah Malikowski, Shane, Ryan, and Marcus Hendrickson, Cassaundra, Kari, and Matthew Hanson, Mallory, Mason, and Alec Malikowski, Maraya, Christian, and Travis Weis, Casie and Cydnie Polman and Carly and Connor Breitenfeldt; her 17 great-grandchildren; her nine siblings; and many nieces and nephews.
