Zelda “Jackie” Mae (Grover) Lachowitzer, age 88 of Perham, MN passed into eternal life at Perham Living on March 30, 2020. Jackie was born at home on September 22, 1931 in Otter Tail County, Perham, MN to Earl and Letha (Wells) Grover.
Jackie graduated from Perham High School in 1948. She met and married the love of her life, Frank Lachowitzer on March 1, 1949. Always together, they ran the family farm and raised seven children. Jackie worked tirelessly to provide for her family. Cooking, baking, gardening, canning, and sewing brought her great joy. Jackie and Frank enjoyed many houseboat fishing trips on Rainy Lake, dancing, playing cards, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
Jackie will be missed dearly by all who knew her. She was an incredible woman who had an unparalleled zest for life and an infectious smile. She always put her children first – her selflessness was beyond reproach. Nothing made her happier than camping with her children and her beloved dog Lucy. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, quilting and caring for her beautiful plants and flowers. Jackie was a longtime member of St. Henry’s Catholic Church where she served as an Extraordinary minister of Holy Communion, member of the Catholic Daughters and a volunteer in many other ministries. She was also a 4-H leader, member of the VFW Auxiliary 4020 and the Pork Producers Association.
Jackie is survived by her daughter Connie (Rich) Harwell of Hastings, MN; her sons Steven (Jeannie) of Princeton, MN, Tim (Sheryl) of Perham, MN, Michael (Dena) of Fargo ND, Don (Candy) of Ottertail, MN and David (Ann) of Kansas City, MO; sister Vernetta Schattschneider of Perham, MN; four brothers Ronnie (Betty) of Wister, OK, Jim (LuAnn) of Grand Rapids, MN, Gene Grover of Grand Rapids, MN and Randy (Lisa) of Perham, MN; 26 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and special friend Edward Keller.
Jackie was preceded in death by her husband Frank, May 14, 2005; her daughter Sandy, October 29, 2018; her parents; three brothers Robert, Howard and Thomas Grover; sisters-in-law Renae Grover and Ann Grover; and brother-in-law Clarence Schattschneider.
The family would like to express a special and sincere thanks to the doctors and nurses of Perham Health and Perham Living for taking such good care of Jackie. A special memorial Mass to celebrate Jackie’s life will be held later this summer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Henry’s Area School.
